What Do You Think?

I could definitely use the New Year's kiss to photoshop the car images. How about you? A slam dunk. Then get Rupert in there all blurry too.

Summit Gives the Counter-Gift to Rob and Kristen

Twilight First Kiss

VF Shoot for Twilight Promotion

Summit Entertainment was at the edge of the financial abyss when they cast and shot Twilight. Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson gave the GIFT of LIFE to Summit Entertainment.

Old Chinese Proverb
Beware before you save a life.

And of course Nietzsche's  detailed genealogy of God breathing the Gift of Life into man in his Genealogy of Morals.

Because when you give the GIFT of LIFE the recipient incurs a DEBT that can never be repaid. Never.
And this DEBT weighs heavy. It can never be repaid.

The GIFT must be answered then with the
COUNTER-GIFT.
The Counter-gift need not be repaid right away, but it must be greater than the Gift. Or the receiver must suicide.

THE COUNTER-GIFT
Fabricated from scratch, photoshopped images of Kristen Stewart "cheating" with Rupert Sanders
Summit Entertainment and Its Cash Cow Named Robsten
Rob Pattinson will be ruined just before his promotion of Cosmopolis as he will be seen as betrayed - a cuckhold. Kristen will be ruined as "cheating" on the HeartThrob of the world, so she will be reviled and hated. The connections between Summit and the tabloids will ensure that this infamy continues to rage right up until the promotion of Breaking Dawn 2.
The tabloids USWeekly and People who received the "SCANDAL" will get as a reward, the  exclusive first rights for Breaking Dawn 2 promotion pieces.

Robsten will be destroyed. Rob and Kristen will be forced by their contracts to appear together for this promotion, tortured by betrayal and grief, pretending to be lovers in the film.
A very unhappy, sad ending which will increase the box office receipts another hundred million.

All in all an excellent COUNTER-GIFT-
PERFECT.

Consider Pearl harbor. This was the Gift. The Atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima were the Counter-Gift. One began the war and the CG ended the war. Symmetrical. They were not returned right away and they were much greater than the Gift. Surprise  in both. We have heard over and over that we did it to end the war sooner and save American lives. And that was true in the Order of Production. But the Symbolic Order must be obeyed.

"Up to a point, you treat people like machines.
But it’s only up to a point. And why?
Because one of the basic principles—[turning to a student] you took the course in human capital, so you know—one of the basic distinctions we make in the literature is that we say yes, human capital is capital,
but it’s a very different form of capital.
For example, you take a machine,
you don’t care if the machine is working in a swamp or not, but people do care whether they’re working in swamps or not, because their human capital they have is part of them.
So you have to develop the theory of human capital as partly related to the theory of machinery

very different from the theory of

DUSTY Review #2: Transgression and Cortezia

Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga was not a phenomenon. No one seemed able to explain it, not even Meyer or the actors. Actually it is fairly easy to explain if you know the structural template and genealogy of the Tristan and Iseult Legend from the 12th century. I keep trying to do that in detail and cannot seem to get there, so here is another piece of it.

Courtly Love or Cortezia came to flower in the court of Eleanor of Aquitaine, first with her marriage to Louis of France and then to Henry II of England. She took her troubadours to England with her where they continued to spread the poetry and songs of Courtly Love. In these midieval times knights were rough and ready for war and women. They married for property and advancement and dowries and love was not much thought about, only copulation. Knights pledged allegiance to a Lady (under the secret influence of Catharism against Rome) who was already married, and troubadours sang songs of a Lady's beauty, purity, grace, and goodness known throughout the land.

The knight was probably already married also or betrothed when he pledged his allegiance to his Lady. This involved a long ritual of watching her, sleeping outside her door, jousting with her favor displayed, eventually sleeping on the floor outside her room and ultimately sleeping with her in his arms - many many months of discipline, both of them naked. This is the practice of akesis. There is no consummation, just desire ever increasing on his part and we don't know about the women. But we can guess from Meyer's Twilight that it must have awakened passion within her, since chastity is involved. A genealogy of chastity from the 5th century shows that it was originally a technique of increasing passion. We go to chastity belts which have not been perceived as the erotic garments they were, focusing sensory awareness on the lower part of the woman's body. Surely these woman must have become very aroused and there are instances surmised of transgressing against the rules of the ritual. So when parents of the conservative persuasion insist on chastity, particularly in their daughters, they are insisting on a practice that ensures the flaming of erotic desire which they do not acknowledge.

Transgression is another part of this. Since the woman was married in all cases, she was off bounds. Think Lancelot the Knight, Queen Guinevere and King Arthur. Transgression led to punishment, banishment and/or death. Guinevere, one variation tells, was banished to a leper colony.

In YellowBella's DUSTY, Transgression is doubled. Bella is 9 and Edward is 11 when they meet the first day Bella attends her new school in Forks to begin 5th grade. She immediately makes friends with Alice Cullen and they become best friends right away. So her tender age is a boundary here as her feelings for Edward begin to flower and his for her. Begun in innocence Edward's oncoming puberty becomes a conflict for him and for her. Both are underage, so we have a huge transgression, especially in our prurient provincial times. But the transgression is doubled as she is his sister's best friend, stays overnight all the time and has begun to be loved and thought of as another sister and another daughter by Carlisle and Esme.

So here we come to "psychological incest" as Edward has started thinking of her as his little sister, which slowly changes, and becomes entwined  in his feelings of possession and protection. We have the long akesis of sleeping together and the secrecy involved. The secret adds another layer of transgression between them increasing their erotic feelings.

Transgression: age; psychological incest; secrecy.

Transgression is another needed ingredient in Cortezia. There are others but we need not go there now. But two of the most important are in place in DUSTY. The long akesis of guarding and sleeping with the love object and the now triple transgression to heighten erotic desire to the level of Passion Love/Death. It is the intensification of the passion that is the true desire of the two lovers, not consummation in the Legend. This Legend has ruled Love in the Western World - and the western world only -  for 800 years with its rituals of love, courtship and marriage until the 1960's ushered in THE PILL. But its template continued unabated beneath the surface and it seems Meyer tore the scab off and released it with Twilight. Is it any wonder then that it was such a fantastic outpouring of polarizing feelings?

Only the young girl Emily Bronte in Wuthering Heights and Wagner in his opera Tristan and Isolde do not shrink from the true desire for becoming one forever in DEATH.

There is no doubt that DUSTY is erotic, but those erotic feelings are triggering deep seated taboos: underage sex, incest and secrecy. Is it any wonder that DUSTY arouses such polarizing feelings?

DUSTY: A Review - A Fanfic by YellowBella

DUSTY A Fanfic by YellowBella

The postmodern way of reading has changed the way we read. The text is no longer expected to contain all the TRUTH that the author intended. The claim that if the author said it that's what s/he meant, or if the author did not say it then it was not meant. All that is gone.

It is the reader who brings meaning to the text. The deeper the reader has read, experienced, contemplated etc enriches the text. Authorial style is no longer the important component. We are following Nietzsche now: the style must be even more so than what the text is revealing and concealing; and it must have music to our listening ears.

To explain: Anyone can read 50 Shades and like it. Reading Twilight first and seeing the movies is not a necessity for its enjoyment  - or purchase.

BUT: IF you have read Twilight - carefully and lovingly - and seen the movies over and over, 50 Shades will be a different book for you than it is for the woman - or man - buying it over the counter. I don't think there is a fan of Twilight who will disagree with me. It's probably the only one thing they can agree on BTW.

Yes, you can read DUSTY without having read Twilight. BUT you will have a different reading experience than the Twilight afficianado. And by precession - another post modern term - you will now reread or remember Twilight with added resonance. So bringing yourself to the text resonates both forward and backward.

YellowBella have taken (there are 2 authors) have taken Twilight and owned it. DUSTY has created resonances in Twilight that were concealed and revealed them to us.

1. We meet a Renee who might have been, had she stayed in Forks and remained married to Charlie. A charming, lovely mother with bourgeois aesthetic tastes instilled by a sophisticated advertising milieu that is total. Bella herself is a product of it. Renee is in a symbiotic attachment with her daughter. She infantilizes her as a means of controlling her. Renee and Charlie are authoritarian parents as befits the Chief of Police of Forks. We surmise they vote conservative and have drawn hard limits and boundaries for behavior that their daughter must conform to. They are the family microcosm of one aspect of our larger political spectrum.

2. We first meet a Bella who is striving to conform to those boundaries set for her. Many Twilight fans have expressed over and over how important this is in parenting. How very necessary, and Kristen Stewart is openly and covertly criticized for not adhering to these ladylike expectations of proper normal behavior. Bella is securely caught in the Foucauldian Grid of power/knowledge/normality Foucault so painstakingly draws in his 1974-75 Lectures on Abnormal at the College de France and in his books: Madness and Civilization and in Discipline and Punish.
Agnes Martin Grid Painting

This Grid is inescapable and DUSTY fictionalizes it so beautifully that anyone of any age reading DUSTY can immediately understand a profound, graduate level world wide, original contribution all of human behavior - that of the relation of power/knowledge. Power and knowledge are not separate, cannot be separated, cannot exist separately as they are always in a relation. Power cannot be given, taken, traded,or any other verb used. There is no Big Power, Big Other over us. Power seeps through the Foucauldian Grid through the interstices of that Grid. When we meet Bella she has assumed the responsibility of being perfect in order to adhere to those requirements. She looks perfect, dresses perfect, acts perfect, behaves perfectly. She is an alive, lovely, charming Barbie doll that her mother has created and we can imagine what might have been her fate had she never met the Cullens, and far more so than in Twilight. This is why DUSTY is an exceptional example of fanfiction that stands on its own merits, inverts Meyer's Twilight and rips into our hearts in a real way that Twilight never attempts.
Michel Foucault

I am hesitating here because I see that one blog post is not going to do it. So I will stop and continue in manageable fragments  as you read it, read through me, and then carry my reading back to DUSTY.

Just as DeLillo's Cosmopolis is a far richer book if read through:Moby Dick; James Joyce: Lacan: Freud; Baudrillard; Nietzsche; Foucault; Gradiva; Greek Mythology; Ayn Rand; etc than if you read it just as a story on its own as women are reading 50 Shades without a clue of Twilight or other fanfic.

What you bring to DUSTY will determine the depth of your reading of DUSTY, as aspects of Kristen and Rob fold in as well as the characters of Bella and Edward. And fans are going to bring going on 5 years of obsessive contemplation and observing. Now it is time for DUSTY to reveal some hidden secrets to you. And in doing so, introduce you to cutting edge philosophical and political thinking for our damned times. You do not need a graduate education to understand it. Kristen already understands it and acts on it unknowingly but surely, adroitly, and in an absolutely original way.

Can you keep up with her? Bella in DUSTY  can.

SURVEILLANCE is the most effective means of controlling human behavior and Foucault has said it is our most dangerous situation now, so it must be resisted. See how Ai WeiWei has resisted in Nietzschean, Baudrillardian style.

LA PREMIERE for Breaking Dawn 2:Kristen Stewart and Ayn Rand's Dominique Francon: CONTEMPT For SUMMIT'S "Empty" Celebration

LA Premiere of Breaking Dawn 2
This is not a dress - link

Does Stewart appear in DEMURE as a PR person might advise her to do?
No, she appears in OBSCENE.

The "dress" is porn that is hyper-porn that is OBSCENE costing thousands of dollars by a famous designer, so how can she be criticized. It is sexier than sexy, hyper-sexy, porno, hyper-porno = OBSCENE (Baudrillard, Herzog).
See it and look at it. Your eyes lock on her sex and you wonder if she waxes it. It is skin you see through the translucent chiffon. It is being given to the photographers and any paparazzi who are at the Premiere. Gratis, far "worse" (Nietzsche) than the photoshopped images of the media manufactured Debordian SPECTACLE of a scandal.

This "gown" designed by a designer of glamorous gowns for glamorous women, Zuhair Murad  link for Kristen Stewart to wear to Summit Entertainment's Premiere of Breaking Dawn 2 in Los Angeles, the virgin first showing of the long awaited final film. It is also the first time Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson have appeared in public since the media SPECTACLE of the scandal.
Worse than any paparazzi image ever stolen from her and she is giving it to them. Here is my ass, take all the images you want.
But you know they would rather "steal"  an image than have it be given to them.
It is a simulacrum being worn at an event that is in itself  an event of Simulated Reality, a copy of a copy with no original.
this is not an opening, not a premiere of celebration, it is a  coarse circus to pump up the box office. To crudely bring in as much money as possible on opening weekend. To exploit the sexual relationship of the two stars.

You want sex she says with this "dress." Well I'll give you sex, dirty sex.

She is wearing it as an act of
CONTEMPT. The dress was designed as a floating sign of CONTEMPT, masking and asserting the integrity and purity of the young woman wearing it. Designed for crude, coarse, lewd, lustful, boorish, greedy, impotent LA Hollywood types, Summit Entertainment, who would exploit a loving relationship between two people, film them in soft-porn sex scenes, promote  a sexual relationship in real life by sending paparazzi after  them constantly to harass them, and then to photoshop "scandal" images, to make hundreds of millions of dollars, and save on promotional costs.

Here is the media manufactured Debordian SPECTACLE of a Scandal

And  here is "NORMAL", ACCEPTED,
APPLAUDED!A Parody, a "dress" as Swiftian Satire.

Foucault touches here on the very structure we find in

Swift, whereby the function of satire is not simply to

create a strange and unfamiliar world, but rather to

return, to rebound upon the present, such that the real

world is shown to be itself a parody...

For there is
a point at which the relation between the distorted image
and the real thing becomes unstable, beyond all dialectical
mediation, a point at which, moreover, it loses the
*generative* force that is given in the concept of
productive negation.  The fact that the inverted image
turns out not to be an inversion, but to reveal that the
normal world is itself already inverted, calls into
question the very standard of "normality" by which one
might measure invertedness

Ayn Rand's Dominique Francon is fictionalized in a similar performance, thus calling to mind that "life imitates art".

So I turn to Ayn Rand in The Fountainhead: Dominique Francon's wedding to Gail Wynand. Dominique observes the world as evil. Integrity, excellence all that we say we admire and revere is sabotaged, punished, ridiculed, undermined, and dragged through the dirt.

A beautiful and desirable woman  she determines to choose the "worst" man she can to marry:
Gail Wynand, the owner of The Banner that has raised mediocrity to admiration to make a fortune in wealth and power.

Returning from Reno, after divorcing  Peter Keating, Wynand meets her train:

"Where are we going, Gail?"

"To get the license. Then to the judge's office. To be married."

"No," she said.

"I want a real wedding, Gail. I want it at the most ostentatious hotel in town. I want engraved invitations, guests, mobs of guests, celebrities, flowers, flash bulbs and newsreel cameras. I want the kind of wedding the public expects of Gail Wynand."

She saw him again when she stood beside him, facing a judge who pronounced the words of the marriage ceremony over the silence of six hundred people in the floodlighted ballroom of the Noyes-Belmont Hotel.

The background she had wished was set so perfectly that it became its own caricature, not a specific society wedding, but an impersonal prototype of lavish, exquisite vulgarity.

Then she stood with him, the mob becoming a heavy silence and a gluttonous stare behind him, and they faced the judge together. She wore a long, black dress with a bouquet of fresh jasmine, his present, attached by a black band to her wrist. Her face in the halo of a black lace hat was raised to the judge.......

Afterward the mockery of the monster reception that followed left him immune. He posed with her for the battery of press cameras and he complied gracefully with all the demands of the reporters, a special noisier mob within the mob. He stood with her in the receiving line, shaking an assembly belt of hands that unrolled past them for hours. ....untouched by these guests who had come here driven by boredom, by an envious hatred, a reluctant submission to an invitation bearing his dangerous name, a scandal-hungry curiosity. He looked as if he did not know that they took his public immolation as their rightful due, that they considered their presence as the indispensable seal of sacrament upon the occasion, that of all the hundreds he and his bride  were the only  ones to whom the performance was hideous. (F. 478-480)
